Jim Moyer Circus
Club About Our
Club! |
|
| In August 1968 Oakview Elementary School
(Fairfax County Public School System) opened its doors and
Jim Moyer was on staff as the first Physical Education teacher. In
his first month Coach Moyer founded and organized the Oakview Elementary
School Exhibitional Activities Club, a school sponsored organization with
emphasis on developing children's acrobatic and circus
skills. |
 |
 |
In September 1968 the club began to perform for the public.
The shows at first concentrated on tumbling and balancing acts, then over
the years we added many other acts such as juggling, stilt walking,
rolling globe, unicycles of various heights, German gym wheel,
quartet adagio, rope jumping, plate and rope spinning, and contortion.
Our early performances were in shopping malls, and we have since
branched out to include parades, basketball half time shows, festivals and
community service/non-profit events. Over the years we have made
over 2000 appearances and today we average thirty to forty performances a
year!
|
| We maintain a troupe of 30 - 40 kids that range in age between 7
and 17 years old and over the years some 4,000 students have participated
in the Oakview Exhibition Club experience! Most of the children are
current or former Oakview Elementary School students, but invited
performers come from schools throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland and
Washington, DC. |
 |
 |
We invite all children who have an interest in developing circus
skills to join our club and participate in our performances (club size is
limited). There is no cost to join our club and the training is
free. All we ask is that you work really hard and participate in at
least one half of our shows. Directions to the club training gym as
well as the rules and regulations are in the Join Us section.
If you you would like us to
perform for one of your events, go to the Email Us section and let us know about the event
and we will get back with you. |
